Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Offshore Wind Training Facility
Tour and learn about The Eastern Atlantic States Carpenter Technical Centers’ (EASCTC) Commercial Dive Center in Sicklerville, NJ. The Dive Center is a union-owned and operated dive school and the first in the United States to achieve multiple accreditations from the Centre of Excellence for Offshore Wind (COE) and the Association of Diving Contractors Inc. (ACDI, in addition to offering the first union-certified Global Wind Organisation program. This rigorous 16-week training program emphasizes underwater welding and essential diving skills for subsurface construction. Located on a dedicated lake, the state-of-the-art facility features advanced classrooms, underwater welding stations, and a decompression chamber. The Center is dedicated to professional workforce development, equipping skilled construction experts for emerging industries like offshore wind energy.

NJ Manufacturing Extension Program Mobile Training Center
The manufacturing industry in New Jersey now has access to a mobile training center that will be traveling across the Garden State, bringing with it the latest technologies in modern manufacturing to bring upskilling where it is needed. NJMEP is kitting out a custom-built, 38 by 8.5-foot 2023 Winnebago WFJ38S, which will have the ability to be loaded up with the industry’s latest advanced manufacturing tech or turned into a classroom on demand.

  • Mobile Training Center Advanced Manufacturing Technology On-Board:

  • 3D Printers

  • Robotic Arms

  • HAAS PLC powered Desktop Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) mills

  • Augmented Reality ARC welding equipment

  • Laser Engraving Machines

  • And more…

The NJMEP Mobile Training Center will act as the ultimate tool for advanced manufacturing skills training by providing students with “hands on experiences” while exposing them to what’s possible within the industry.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Energy ECO Center
Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Developer welcomes Time for Turbine 7 attendees to experience the Educational Community Outreach (ECO) Center-- a unique, engaging space connected to Stockton University and situated on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Opened in 2020 as an anchor tenant of the brand-new campus residence hall, the ECO Center has become a place-maker and destination on the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Throughout the year, groups and various stakeholders visit to learn more about Atlantic Shores projects and offshore wind energy through a variety of mediums that include information sessions, engaging displays, VR headsets, and wind turbine models and foundations. Its proximity to the beach allows for the facilitation of hands-on, STEM learning activities about offshore wind, done in partnership with the non-profit OffshoreWind4Kids. In fact, be ready get a little sandy--weather permitting, attendees will enjoy a short demo on the beach.

Rutgers University Marine Field Station
For more than 50 years, the Rutgers University Marine Field Station at Tuckerton has been sampling and sensing the marine and estuarine environments of Little Egg Harbor and the Great Bay. Surrounded by salt marsh and poised at the mouth of an active ocean inlet, data collected here is used to inform coastal fisheries, communities, and industries about the ways in which our marine environment is adapting, and establishes a baseline for research on the impacts of offshore wind farms on the ocean before, during and after construction.

RU COOL Lab Demo at RUMFS
The Rutgers University Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (RUCOOL) is located on the main New Brunswick campus, but Lab professors will give a portable demonstration of the RUCOOL technology at the RU Marine Field Station in Tuckerton.  Our faculty, staff and students are engaged in research that spans extreme weather events like hurricanes, to polar science and environmental considerations with the introduction off offshore wind energy to the US. This tour will introduce you to RUCOOL science and technology and its role in supporting the offshore wind industry.

Stockton University Marine Field Station
The Stockton University Marine Field Station (MFS) in Port Republic, NJ is home base for the Stockton Marine and Coastal programs and the Stockton fleet. The MFS is surrounded by the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Forsyth Refuge of the USFWS and extensive state lands. The MFS supports research and teaching in the marine environment including beach and dune protection, including work on harbor seals, artificial reefs, hydrology, oyster reef and seagrass restoration and marine archaeology.

11:45amLunch

12:45pmPanel 2: Offshore Wind Transmission
Offshore wind transmission has quickly emerged as one of the most consequential aspects of the industry. The gigawatts of offshore wind coming off the Shore have very specific interconnection needs and locations and the NJBPU has helped to spearhead a ground-breaking process with PJM on the State Agreement Approach 1 & 2, but how our electric grid is evolving to meet the needs of offshore wind energy is one of the key stories for offshore wind.

1:45pmPanel 3: Wind Port
The New Jersey Wind Port is the first purpose built port of its kind in the United States. Taking advantage of the unique location in Southern New Jersey near the Delaware Bay, the state is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to position New Jersey as a hub for offshore wind vessel deployment and tier one manufacturing for the entire Mid-Atlantic. This panel will provide updates from government officials, as well as unions and other workers that are making the Wind Port a reality.

  • Moderator: Debra Coyle, Executive Director, NJ Work Environment Council

  • Peter Knorr, Director of Port Operations, NJ Economic Development Authority

  • Chris Ace, Millwright Representative, Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters

2:15pmPanel 4: Workforce Development and Supply Chain
Offshore wind development promises thousands of good paying jobs ranging from construction and maintenance on the turbines themselves to manufacturing jobs that create the components and auxiliary equipment needed by the industry. As the industry continues to grow both in New Jersey and along the Eastern seaboard, people are asking what type of jobs will be created, who will fill them, and where will the jobs be. This panel will look to provide some answers and explain how this industry will impact workers in New Jersey with perspectives from unions, manufacturers, and community groups.

  • Moderator: Robin Tabakin, President, Technoforce LLC

  • Larry Banks, Manager, Workforce Development & Education, NJ Manufacturing Extension

  • Drew Heverly, Industrial Paint Training and Apprentice Coordinator, IUPAT District Council 21

  • Amed Chaudry, Manager, Wind Institute, NJ Economic Development Authority

  • Oriana Holmes-Price, Director of Organizing, NJ Environmental Justice Alliance

  • Quiya Harris, Green Careers VISTA, NJ Environmental Justice Alliance
